Dan & Carrie

Dan and Carrie (brother and sister-in-law) braved the heat and humidity here in the southeast over the past week while on their summer vacation. They currently live in southwest Michigan (see the lower left of your right palm) where summer, according to them, had not yet arrived.



They got us out to do several things in the area for the first time. In return, we helped Carrie get over her fear of bats and canoeing/tubing wild rivers.



Thursday, we went to Satchels and the bat house on University of Florida campus, apparently the largest bat house in the U.S. We finally made it to Lake Wauburg on Friday, which is also UF property. No pictures but a very nice place for a picnic and various outdoor activities, preferably when it isn't high 90's.



Michelle playing in her ultimate frisbee league on Friday night. It was still 90+ at 7:30 pm. We had near-record heat all weekend.

So we got up early the next morning to tube on the Ichetucknee River, which is a popular summer pastime among locals and people on summer vacation in Florida. We had to wait in line for a while, but the water was a pleasant 72 degrees.



Here are a few nice photos from the Ichetucknee State Park website since we couldn't take our non-waterproof cameras along for the float.

We also made it to the natural history museum here in Gainesville and out to a church member's house to pick several pounds of blueberries.
