Bob Barr, the libertarian presidential candidate, spoke at the University of Florida last night. It was reassuring to hear from a candidate who would actually work towards a "hands-off" federal government and take a pay-cut on his first day in office.
Barr sat in congress as one of the most conservative Republicans at the time and later became an active member of the ACLU. Interesting life history? Sure is! Did he move me to become a libertarian and "waste" my vote on a 3rd party candidate come November, especially in Florida? Not sure. It is unfortunate, to put it mildly, that he and other candidates aren't allowed to participate in the debates. By the way, he would argue that voting for McCain or Obama is a wasted vote; a choice between big government and bigger government.
What I am sure of are these three things: one, Bob Barr invited the entire audience to have drinks with him following his speech last night, two, Ronald Reagan made a convincing point when he said that the nine most terrifying words you can hear are, "I’m from the government, and I’m here to help", and three, nobody was tasered before, during, or after the event last night.
