A member at our church invited me out fishing on the gulf yesterday. The day started off in the upper 30's. By 2 pm it was about 70 degrees and drop dead gorgeous. Follow the link to the Waccasassa State Park for some more information about the area.
His dad built this airboat over 30 years ago. It was loud and awesome!
Oyster bar at low tide about 1 mile in from the gulf. Because of the full moon yesterday, the low tide was a foot lower than what you see above. We fished the outgoing tide with live shrimp in the morning before heading out to the gulf proper, where we saw many cool birds and caught no fish.
Same oyster bar but in the afternoon during the incoming tide. An hour after the above picture was taken, the bar was covered by 2 feet of water. We had much more success during this time. But it was very strange to see water flowing INTO these streams or creeks from the ocean.
Randy with spotted or sea trout. We caught several of these but only he had 2 big enough (16") to keep.
Joel with a redfish. I caught three but this was the only one big enough (19") to take home.
We fried it in cajun seasoning and corn meal.
Michelle even ate some! Why do I feel like more of a man today than I did the day before yesterday?

That's a great picture of you, Michelle. :) It was great to see you two over Christmas. Glad you made it back safely...and I'm incredibly envious of that warm, muggy Floridian weather right now. We're going to have a hard time getting above zero for the next few days here. Darn winter.
Yeah, who doesn't love a picture of themselves stuffing their face? Can't go wrong there :)
Made it back safely, but almost late - apparently sometimes the Appleton airport IS busy, fyi :) Stay warm (if you can)!!
So Joel, did you stretch that one 19" fish into a meal for 2???? Looked awfully good, almost like a Wisconsin fish fry!!!
Yeah, and we have a little left over for fish tacos.
