What do get when you mix jazz, banjo, and Christmas music with Tuvan throat singing? A Bela Fleck and the Flecktones concert, of course. Michelle and I saw some talented musicians Sunday afternoon.
I can't think of anything that is much more country than the banjo, more urban than the saxaphone, more western and modern than jazz music or more eastern and ancient than 4 'Mongolians' singing about horses and rivers in their throats. Throw in bass virtuoso Victor Wooten, one-man horn section Jeff Coffin, and the dread-locked, pirate-looking Futureman with his synthe-axe drumitar playing Jingle Bells and you have quite the show.
