Space Visit

After 30 years, the shuttle program is over and we were able to see the final launch on our way to visit friends last month. It was hot and crowded and I shot a really bad video while avoiding the traffic, but it is was neat to have been there. Of course, it would have been better to have been here.

Here is a much better version (short or long) of the final launch.

The sound and the fury of the shuttle moving 4.5 million pounds of hardware and humans to near-Earth orbit. And a interesting video of the recovery of the shuttle boosters. The external tank for the main engines (the brown one in the middle) burns up on reentry since it basically helps to fuel the shuttle all the way into orbit.

We had a nice visit with the Petersens. Here are a few videos of Lydia, Audrey, and Wes in the pool (Lydia later pooped in), on the swings, and having story time with Joel.
